Al-Ma'idah - Surah 5
120 verses
O you Messenger, do not be saddened by those who hasten into disbelief among those who have said, "We believe, "with their mouths while their hearts do not believe. For among the Jews are those who listen to falsehood, they listen to other people who have not come to you; they distort words out of their places, saying, "If you are given this, then take it; but if you are not given it, then be careful."But whosoever GOD intends to test him, thence you can never control anything against GOD for him. Those are the ones whom GOD does not intend to purify their hearts. For them is disgrace in the world, and they will have a terrible punishment in the hereafter.
O you (Yaa Ayyuha) Messenger (Er'Rasuulu), do not (Laa) be saddened by (Yah'zunka) those who (Ellaziina) hasten (Yusaariuuna) into (Fii) disbelief (El'Kuf'ri) among (Mina) those who (Ellaziina) have said (Qaaluu'), "We believe (Aamannaa)," with (Bi) their mouths (Af'waahi-him') while (Wa) their hearts (Quluubu-hum') do not (Lam') believe (Tu'min). For (Wa) among (Mina) the Jews (Haadu') are those who (Ellaziina) listen (Sammaauuna) to falsehood (Lil' Kazibi), they listen (Sammaauuna) to (Li) other (Aakhariina) people (Qaw'min) who have not (Lam') come to you (s) (Ya'tuu-ka); they distort (Yuharrifuuna) words (El'Kalima) out of (Min Ba'di) their places (Mawaadie-hi), saying (Yaquuluuna), "If (In') you are given (Uutiitum') this (Haaza), then (Fa) take it (Khuzuu-hu); but (Wa) if (In) you are not (Lam') given it (Tu'taw'hu), then (Fa) be careful (Eh'zaru')." But (Wa) whosoever (Man) GOD (Ellahu) intends (Yuridi) to test him (Fit'nata-hu), thence (Fa) you can never (Lan) control (Tam'lika) anything (Shai'an) against GOD (Minallahi) for him (Lahu). Those (U'laaika) are the ones whom (Ellaziina) GOD (Ellahu) does not (Lam') intend (Yuridi) to (An) purify (Yutohhira) their hearts (Quluuba-hum'). For them (Lahum') is disgrace (Khiz'yun) in (Fii) the world (Ed'Dun'ya), and (Wa) they will have (Lahum') a terrible (Äziimu) punishment (Äzaabun) in the hereafter (Fiil' Aakhirati).
They listen to falsehood, consumers of illegal possession. So if they come to you, then judge between them or turn away from them. And if you should turn away from them, then they can never harm you at all. But if you judge, then judge between them in justice. Indeed, GOD loves those who are equitable.
They listen (Sammaauuna) to falsehood (Lil' Kazibi), consumers (Akkaaluuna) of illegal possession (Lis' Suh'ti). So (Fa) if (In) they come to you (s) (Jaauu-ka), then (Fa) judge (Eh'kum) between them (Bai'nahum') or (Aw') turn away from them (A'rid' Än'hum'). And (Wa) if (In) you should turn away from them (Tu'rid' Än'hum'), then (Fa) they can never (Lan) harm you (s) (Yadurruu-ka) at all (Shai'an). But (Wa) if (In') you judge (5:49) (Hakam'ta), then (Fa) judge (Eh'kum) between them (Bai'nahum) in justice (Bil' Qis'ti). Indeed, GOD (Innallaha) loves (Yuhibbu) those who are equitable (El'Muq'sitiin).
And how do they make you judge while with them is the Torah wherein is the judgement of GOD, yet they turn away after that? And those are not believers.
And (Wa) how (Kai'fa) do they make you (s) judge (Yuhakkimuunaka) while (Wa) with them (the Jews) (Endahumu) is the Torah (62:5) (Ettaw'raatu) wherein (Fiihaa) is the judgement of GOD (Huk'mu-llahi), yet (Thumma) they turn away (Yatawallaw'na) after (Min Ba'di) that (Zaalika)? And (Wa) those (U'laaika) are not (Maa Bi) believers (El'Mu'miniin).
Indeed, We sent down the Torah wherein is guidance and light. The prophets who submitted judged by it for those who were Jewish, and so did the rabbis and the scholars by what they were entrusted of the book of GOD, and they were witnesses to it. So do not fear the people, but fear ME and do not trade MY verses for a little price. And whoever does not judge by what GOD has revealed, then those are the disbelievers.
Indeed (Innaa), We sent down (Anzal'naa) the Torah (62:5) (Ettaw'raata) wherein (Fiiha) is guidance (Hudan) and (Wa) light (Nuurun). The prophets (En'Nabiyyuuna) who (Ellaziina) submitted (As'lamu') judged (Yah'kumu) by it (Bihaa) for those who (Lillaziina) were Jewish (Haadu'), and so did (Wa) the rabbis (spiritual leaders) (Er'Rabbaaniyyuuna) and the scholars (Wal' Ah'baaru) by what (Bimaa) they were entrusted (Es'tuh'fizu') of (Min) the book of GOD (Kitaabi-llahi), and (Wa) they were (Kaanu') witnesses (Shuhadaa'a) to it (Älai'hi). So do not (Falaa) fear (Takh'shawu') the people (En'Naasa), but (Wa) fear ME (Ekh'shaw'ni) and do not (Walaa) trade (Tash'taru') MY verses (Aayaatii) for (Bi) a little (Qaliilan) price (Thamanan). And whoever (Waman) does not (Lam') judge (Yah'kum) by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu), then (Fa) those (U'laaika) are (Humu) the disbelievers (El'Kaafiruun).
And We decreed to them therein that; a soul for a soul, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, as for an injury there is retaliation. But whoever gives it up as charity, then it is atonement for him. And whoever does not judge by what GOD has revealed, then those are the transgressors. Exodus 21:23-25
And (Wa) We decreed (Katab'naa) to them (Älai'him) therein (Fiihaa) that (Anna); a soul (En'Naf'sa) for (Bi) a soul (En'Naf'si), an eye (El'Äi'na) for an eye (Bil' Äi'ni), a nose (El'Anfa) for a nose (Bil' Anfi), an ear (El'Uzuna) for an ear (Bil' Uzuni), a tooth (Es'Sinna) for a tooth (Bis' Sinni), as for (Wa) an injury (El'Juruuha) there is retaliation (2:178) (Qisoasun). But (Fa) whoever (Man) gives it up as charity (Tasoddaqa Bihi), then (Fa) it (Huwa) is atonement (Kaffaaratun) for him (Lahu). And whoever (Waman) does not (Lam') judge (Yah'kum) by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu), then (Fa) those (U'laaika) are (Humu) the transgressors (Ez'Zoalimuun). Exodus 21:23-25 (Bible)
And We sent Jesus, the son of Mary upon their footsteps, confirming what was before him of the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel wherein is guidance and light and confirming what was before it of the Torah and as guidance and preachment for the pious.
And (Wa) We sent (Qaffai'naa Bi) Jesus (Eesa), the son (Eb'ni) of Mary (Mar'yama) upon (Älaa) their footsteps (Aathaari-him), confirming (Musoddiqan) what (Limaa) was before him (Bai'na Yadai'hi) of (Mina) the Torah (Ettaw'raati); and We gave him (Aatai'naa-hu) the Gospel (El' injiila) wherein (Fiihi) is guidance (Hudan) and light (Nuurun) and (Wa) confirming (Musoddiqan) what (Limaa) was before it (Bai'na Yadai'hi) of (Mina) the Torah (Ettaw'raati) and (Wa) as guidance (Hudan) and preachment (Maw'ezotan) for the pious (Lil' Muttaqiin).
So let the People of the Gospel judge by what GOD has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what GOD has revealed, then those are the immoral.
So let (Wal') the People of the Gospel (Ah'lul' Injiili) judge (Yah'kum') by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu) therein (Fiihi). And whoever (Waman) does not (Lam') judge (Yah'kum) by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu), then (Fa) those (U'laaika) are (Humu) the immoral (El'Faasiquun).
And We have revealed the Book to you in truth, confirming what was before it of the Book and governing over it. So judge between them by what GOD has revealed and do not follow their inclinations concerning what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We have made a law and a method. And if GOD had willed, HE would have made you one nation, but HE has to test you through what HE has given you; so compete in good deeds. To GOD is your return all together, then HE will inform you about what you have differed.
And (Wa) We have revealed (Anzal'naa) the Book (El'Kitaaba) to you (M) (ilai'ka) in truth (Bil' Haqqi), confirming (Musoddiqan) what (Limaa) was before it (Bai'na Yadai'hi) of (Mina) the Book (El'Kitaabi) and governing (Muhai'minan) over it (Älai'hi). So (Fa) judge (Eh'kum) between them (Bai'nahum) by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu) and do not (Walaa) follow (Tattabi') their inclinations (Ah'waa'a-hum') concerning what (Ämmaa) has come to you (s) (Jaa'a-ka) of (Mina) the truth (El'Haqqi). To (Li) each (Kullin) of you (p) (Minkum') We have made (Jaäl'naa) a law (45:18) (Shir'ätan) and a method (Min'haajan). And (Wa) if (Law') GOD had willed (Shaa'a-llahu), HE would have (La) made you (Jaäla-kum') one (Waahidatan) nation (Ummatan), but (Walaakin) HE has to (Li) test you (Yab'luwa-kum') through (Fii) what (Maa) HE has given you (Aataa-kum'); so (Fa) compete in (Es'tabiqu') good deeds (El'Khai'raati). To GOD (ilaallahi) is your return (Mar'jiu-kum') all together (Jamiiän), then (Fa) HE will inform you (Yunabbiu-kum) about what (Bimaa) you have (Kuntum') differed (Takh'talifuun Fiihi).
And so judge between them by what GOD has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what GOD has revealed to you. And if they turn away, then know that GOD only intends to afflict them for some of their sins. And indeed, many of the people are immoral.
And (Wa) so (Ani) judge (Eh'kum) between them (Bai'nahum) by what (Bimaa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu) and do not (Walaa) follow (Tattabi') their inclinations (Ah'waa'a-hum') and (Wa) beware of them (Eh'zar'hum'), lest (An) they tempt you (s) (Yaf'tinuu-ka) away from (Än) some (Ba'di) of what (Maa) GOD has revealed (Anzala-llahu) to you (s) (ilai'ka). And (Fa) if (In) they turn away (Tawallaw'), then (Fa) know (E'lam') that GOD (Ellahu) only (Annamaa) intends (Yuriidu) to (An) afflict them (Yusiiba-hum) for (Bi) some (Ba'di) of their sins (Zunuubi-him'). And (Wa) indeed (Inna), many (Kathiiran) of the people (En'Naasi) are (La) immoral (Faasiquun).
So is it the judgement of ignorance they desire? And who is better than GOD in judgement for people who are certain?
So is it (Afa-) the judgement (-Huk'ma) of ignorance (El'Jaahiliyyati) they desire (Yab'guuna)? And (Wa) who (Man') is better (Ah'sanu) than GOD (Minallahi) in judgement (Huk'man) for (Li) people (Qaw'min) who are certain (Yuuqinuun)? (6:114)
O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are allies of each other. And whoever befriends them among you, then indeed, he is among them. Indeed, GOD does not guide the transgressing people.
O you (Yaa Ayyuha) who (Ellaziina) believe (Aamanu'), do not (Laa) take (Tattakhizu') the Jews (El'Yahuuda) and the Christians (En'Nasoaraa) as allies (Aw'liyaa'a). They are allies (Aw'liyaau) of each other (Ba'du-hum Ba'din). And whoever (Waman) befriends them (Yatawalla-hum) among you (the believers) (Minkum'), then (Fa) indeed, he (Innahu) is among them (Min'hum'). Indeed, GOD (Innallaha) does not (Laa) guide (Yah'dii) the transgressing (Ez'Zoalimiin) people (El'Qaw'ma).
And you will see those in whose hearts is disease hastening into them, saying, "We fear that a mishap may strike us."But perhaps GOD will bring a conquest or a command from HIM, and they will become remorseful over what they have concealed within themselves.
And (Fa) you will see (Taraa) those (Ellaziina) in (Fii) whose hearts (Quluubi-him) is disease (Maradun) hastening (Yusaariuuna) into them (Fiihim'), saying (Yaquuluuna), "We fear (Nakh'shaa) that (An) a mishap (Daa’iratun) may strike us (Tusiiba-naa)." But (Fa) perhaps GOD (Äsaallahu) will bring (Ya'tiya Bi) a conquest (El'Fat'hi) or (Aw') a command (Am'rin) from HIM (Min' Endi-hi), and (Fa) they will become (Yus'bihu') remorseful (Naadimiin) over (Älaa) what (Maa) they have concealed (Asarru') within (Fii) themselves (Anfusi-him').
And those who have believed will say, "Are these the ones who swore by GOD in the effort of their oaths that they were with you?"Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become losers.
And (Wa) those who (Ellaziina) have believed (Aamanuu') will say (Yaquulu), "Are these (A-haaulaai) the ones who (Ellaziina) swore (Aq'samu') by GOD (Billahi) in the effort (Jah'da) of their oaths (Ai'maani-him') that they (Innahum') were (La) with you (Maäkum')?" Their deeds (A'maalu-hum') have become worthless (Habitot'), and (Fa) they have become (As'bahu’) losers (Khaasiriin).
O you who believe, whoever among you should revert from his religion, then GOD will bring forth a people whom HE will love and they will love HIM. They will humble the believers, mighty against the disbelievers; they will strive in the way of GOD and will not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favour of GOD; HE gives it to whomever HE wills. For GOD is Encompassing and Omniscient.
O you (Yaa Ayyuha) who (Ellaziina) believe (Aamanu'), whoever (Man) among you (Minkum') should revert (Yar'tadda) from (Än) his religion (Diini-hi), then (Fa) GOD (Ellahu) will (Saw'fa) bring forth (Ya'tii Bi) a people (Qaw'min) whom HE will love (Yuhibbu-hum') and (Wa) they will love HIM (Yuhibbuunahu). They will humble (Azillatin) to (Älaa) the believers (El'Mu'miniina), mighty (Aezzatin) against (Älaa) the disbelievers (El'Kaafiriina); they will strive (Yujaahiduuna) in (Fii) the way of GOD (Sabiili-llahi) and will not (Walaa) fear (Yakhaafuuna) the blame (Law'mata) of a critic (Laa’imin). That (Zaalika) is the favour of GOD (Fad'lu-llahi); HE gives it (Yu'tii-hi) to whomever (Man) HE wills (Yashaau). For GOD (Wallahu) is Encompassing (Waasiun) and Omniscient (Äliim).
Your only ally is GOD, as well as HIS messenger and those who believe, the ones who establish the Litany and give the Charity, and they bow down.
Your (-kumu) only (Innamaa) ally (Waliyyu-) is GOD (Ellahu), as well as (Wa) HIS messenger (Rasuulu-hu) and (Wa) those who (Ellaziina) believe (Aamanu'), the ones who (Ellaziina) establish (Yuqiimuuna) the Litany (Es'Solaata) and give (Yu'tuuna) the Charity (Ez'Zakaata), and (Wa) they (Hum') bow down (Raaki'uun).
And whoever allies with GOD and HIS messenger and those who have believed, then indeed, the party of GOD are the winners.
And whoever (Waman) allies with (Yatawalla) GOD (Ellaha) and HIS messenger (Rasuula-hu) and those who (Ellaziina) have believed (Aamanu'), then (Fa) indeed, (Inna) the party of GOD (Hiz'ba-llahi) are (Humu) the winners (El'Gaalibuun).
O you who believe, do not take those who have taken your religion in mockery and play among those who were given the Book before you and the disbelievers as allies. And beware of GOD, if you should be believers.
O you (Yaa Ayyuha) who (Ellaziina) believe (Aamanu'), do not (Laa) take (Tattakhizu') those who (Ellaziina) have taken (Ettakhazu') your religion (Diina-kum') in mockery (Huzuwan) and (Wa) play (Laeban) among (Mina) those who (Ellaziina) were given (Uutu') the Book (El'Kitaaba) before you (Min Qab'li-kum') and the disbelievers (Wal' Kuffaara) as allies (Aw'liyaa'a). And (Wa) beware of GOD (Ettaqu'llaha), if (In) you should be (Kuntum) believers (Mu'miniin).
And when you summon to the Litany, they take it in mockery and play. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
And (Wa) when (Izaa) you summon (Naadai'tum’) to (ilaa) the Litany (62:9) (Es'Solaati), they take it (E'ttakhazuu-ha) in mockery (Huzuwan) and play (La'eban). That (Zaalika) is because they (Bi'anna-hum') are a people (Qaw'mun) who do not (Laa) reason (Ya'qiluun).
Say:"O People of the Book, do you resent us only because we believe in GOD and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed before and that most of you are immoral?"
Say (Qul'): "O (Yaa) People of the Book (Ah'lal' Kitaabi), do (Hal') you resent us (Tanqimuuna Minnaa) only (illa) because (An') we believe (Aamannaa) in GOD (Billahi) and what (Wamaa) has been revealed (Unzila) to us (ilai'naa) and what (Wamaa) was revealed (Unzila) before (Min Qab'lu) and (Wa) that (Anna) most of you (Ak'thara-kum') are immoral (Faasiquun)?"
Say:"Shall I inform you what is worse than that as recompense at GOD? One whom GOD has cursed and upon whom is a wrath and has made some of them apes and pigs and slaves of idols. Those are worse in position, for they have strayed from the straight way."
Say (Qul'): "Shall (Hal') I inform you (Unabbiu-kum) what is (Bi) worse (Sharrin) than (Min) that (Zaalika) as recompense (Mathuubatan) at GOD (Endallahi)? One whom (Man) GOD (Ellahu) has cursed (Laäna-hu) and (Wa) upon whom (Älai'hi) is a wrath (Gadiba) and (Wa) has made (Jaäla) some of them (Min'humu) apes (El'Qiradata) and pigs (Wal' Khanaaziira) and slaves (Äbada) of idols (Ettoaguuta). Those (U'laaika) are worse (Sharrun) in position (Makaanan), for (Wa) they have strayed (Adollu) from the straight (sound) (Sawaai) way (Es'Sabiil)."
